Hi all,
I would just like to keep you updated with how South Makirikiri School is going regarding Covid and the new guidelines that have just been issued.
Firstly:
We currently have one family isolating as two students from within that family have tested positive for COVID. We are very fortunate that no staff members have been affected as yet.
Please can we encourage you to call the office if your child is absent so that we know whether it is COVID related. In addition to this if you are at home isolating then please let us know if any students test positive. We are keeping a spreadsheet here at school and so would like to know when peoples Day 0 is in terms of them returning to school.
I would like to say a huge thank you to you all for the wonderful way that you are all dealing with this. We appreciate you keeping your child at home with a cough or a sneeze even when we know it isn’t COVID. We are very fortunate here – many schools seem riddled with it – yet we are not, and that is down to you and the way you are managing your households.
THANK YOU.
On Friday this week the rules around isolation are changing from 10 days to 7. This means that:
- If you test positive that is your day 0 and you are free to leave isolation on day 8 providing you have no symptoms. If you have symptoms then you are to remain in isolation until 24 hours after having no symptoms.
- If you are a household contact then you only need to isolate for 7 days and can leave home on day 8 providing you have no symptoms and have returned a negative test on day 7.
If the person has COVID and their day 7 is on Saturday 12th or later then they can return to school on Monday 14th providing they have been symptom free for 24 hours. My understanding is that you do not have to provide the negative test as it is in your system but you are through the infectious stage.
If you have any questions then please do not hesitate to contact me tomorrow.
Keep up the good work.
