Latest Update on Start back at School for Level 2.

Morena everyone.

I have held off sending too many details until we received the latest update from the MOE. This has yet to arrive in my inbox but these are the plans for the next two days.

As the Prime Minister has stated, schools have 48 hours to ensure that schools are ready for opening on Thursday 9th September.
During today teachers will continue with online learning and tomorrow will be preparing for face-to-face teaching on Thursday. There are still a number of learning opportunities online for our tamariki can continue on with for Wednesday. All staff will be back at school on Wednesday where we will work through Production and Pet day scenarios along with classroom preparedness.
Those that have been involved in supervision at school will continue on Wednesday as planned.

We want to thank each and every one of you for your help, engagement and proactiveness around our successful distance learning program. We cannot continue to make gains with our tamariki without a positive reciprocal relationship between home and school so it is really appreciated.
We’ll update you tomorrow when we hear further from the Ministry of Education.

Preparing for this week:

Those who are essential workers can you please advise by email that you will require supervision for your children on Monday and Tuesday. Please email principal@southmak.school.nz

Like many of you, we will be waiting in anticipation for Tuesday’s announcement or if it comes any earlier for alert level changes. We will be prepared and organized for whatever eventuates. There may be some changes to dropoff times or procedures when coming into school. There will be more informati0n as it comes to hand.

Looking forward to another eventful went and whatever the week brings.

Production Changes. The show will go on!

Obviously, with all the disruptions, Covid is causing we are making modifications to our Production performances. This is a real highlight for many of our students and we are working really hard to get the opportunity to perform on the BIG stage. We have rescheduled dates to enable evening shows on Tuesday 21st, Wednesday 22nd and Thursday 23rd of September. We will need to fit within the Level 2 gathering limits of 100. As many of you have already purchased tickets for the evening shows we are asking that if you are able to move from the existing Wednesday or Thursday show to having people attend the Tuesday show. We really need to limit the numbers to 100 and have already sold 130 tickets to each of the evening shows. If you are able to look at changing to Tuesday night this will help us out immensely.

We will still be holding a matinee and are hoping to keep it the same as a Wednesday. This is all dependent on facilities being available.

We are really focused on making this work for our students and appreciate the support with these changes.

Pet Day 2021 Thursday 30th September

Pet Day 2021 Thursday 30th September

Pet day is scheduled for Thursday the 30th of September. We are still planning to manage this even if we are at Alert level 2 as we can safely manage the number of spectators around our school site by spreading people out.

We need to get entries from students with what pets they are intending to bring along.

The timetable is attached with a few changes from previous years to hopefully make it easier for our invited judges. We have also moved the starting time to ease the pressure on families getting animals to school so early.

Please complete a separate entry form for each child.

Pet Day 2021

Important Planning for Level 3 transition: Please complete form.

Afternoon everyone,

I am sure you all have been awaiting 3:00 announcement from the Prime Minister. As a result of the announcement to move to Level 3 at 11:59 Tuesday the 31st of August we need to put the planning in place now for as a school we will operate.

South Makirikiri school will be open from the 1st of September for those in essential work and needing the supervision for your children. This is for those that there is no other possible way to supervise them from home. The ultimate goal would be for learning to continue at home where possible.

We will be continuing with. home learning and those that do need supervision at school will be engaging in online learning and supervised in dedicated spaces. We will do this in a variety of ways as we have to work through who is able to supervise students at school.
There will direct instructions for those who do require supervision with dedicated times for dropping off and picking up, along with the rules we will have for around our school site.

Can you please complete the online form so we can start to get a picture for what the 1st of September for the staff that will be supporting supervision at school.

This again is a testing time for us all and we appreciate the way you are all working to support your families.

Thank you for your support in enabling learning to continue at home and know we will provide the supervision for those that need during level 3.
